GETTING READY FOR SUNDAY: PREVIEW OF THE READINGS
In this season of Epiphany, the Church continues to celebrate and rejoice in the manifestation of the God/ Man Jesus Christ, and holds before our eyes some of the most wonderful and powerful manifestations of Christ’s Divinity described in the Gospels. Today’s Gospel describes the miracle and sign Jesus gave at the wedding at Cana in Galilee. In today’s Epistle Paul describes how it is that through the gift of the Spirit we, in turn, manifestations of the glory of Christ, who renews our life in brotherly love, turning water into wine.
THE LESSON: Romans 12:6-16
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; never be conceited.
THE HOLY GOSPEL: John 2:1-11
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ Now standing there were six stone water-jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, ‘Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.’ So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, ‘Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.’ Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

2024 PLEDGE CAMPAIGN. To date we have received 34 pledges for a total of $105,880. If you have not submitted a pledge for the coming year, please be encouraged to do so, and so aid the Vestry in its plans and stewardship.
LOWER HALL PAINTING BEE. Plans are underway to paint the walls in the Lower Hall in preparation for installation of new flooring next month. Able to handle a paint roller? We are looking for volunteers. Please speak to Simon if you are able to help.
